My name is Nick Rapley. Born in New Zealand's most southern city Dunedin. Growing up next to one of our most beautiful wild coastlines sparked my introduction to surfing at a young age. As I spent more and more time in the water I became completely captivated with the ocean and its beauty. Aside from surfing I developed another passion for freestyle skiing and for the last few years I have been lucky enough to ski/compete full time. Skiing became my gateway to travelling and I have been fortunate enough to be able to visit so many amazing places with such cultural diversity. Seeing the world in a different aspect than what I was used to back home inspired my initial drive to start capturing these special moments I was witnessing.
As skiing is becoming more part time for me, I have been really focused on photography and exploring what my beautiful backyard (South Island) has to offer. I love adventuring our unique coastlines in search of untouched waves and new landscapes. Its hard to motivate yourself to get out there amongst the gale force winds, torrential rains and freezing temperatures this part of the world has to offer, but I believe by putting myself in these harsh environments I get to capture thought provoking images that tell a story behind them.
As I continue my journey in life, producing images that tell a story whether it be of the ocean, a landscape, or a couple sharing a moment of love, this is what I want to do. Creating photos of these moments and making them last forever.
